Divya Iyer transferred govt land at Varkala, says report

Earlier this month, Divya S Iyer was transferred from the sub-collector's post after the CPM district leadership sought action against her in the Varkala land deal.

Varkala: Putting IAS official Divya S Iyer in the dock, it has emerged that she had indeed transferred government land to a private individual in Varkala as Thiruvananthapuram sub-collector.

A report submitted by the district survey superintendent has confirmed that the deal involved government land.

The transfer of land, worth Rs 1 crore, by Divya S Iyer to the private individual had triggered a big controversy.

The revenue department had taken over the land along the State Highway in Varkala's Villikadavu in July 2017. When the person approached the court, the sub-collector was asked to take an appropriate decision. Following this, the sub-collector issued an order to hand over the plot to the person.

The land in question is located on the Varkala-Parippalli State Highway at Villikadavil at Elakamon in Ayiroor village in Varkala taluk. The land was taken over by the Varkala tahsildar on July 19 after it was found that it was in illegal possession of a private individual. The land was then earmarked to build a police station for Ayiroor village.

However, the person approached the court questioning the action of the revenue department and the court asked sub-collector Divya S Iyer to take an appropriate decision. The sub-collector, after hearing the complainant, cancelled the tahsildar's decision.

Earlier this month, Divya S Iyer was transferred from the sub-collector's post after the CPM district leadership sought action against her in the Varkala land deal.

She was shifted to the post of deputy secretary in the local self-government department.
