Attn passengers: new train to connect South Kerala and Chennai

The Tambaram - Kollam express will have 14 coaches, including one third A/C and six sleepers.

Kollam: A new train has started service connecting the southern part of Kerala with Chennai ending a long wait. The Tambaram – Kollam special fare special bi-weekly express is the first train to operate after the Shencottah – Kollam track was converted to broad gauge.

It leaves Tambaram on Monday and Wednesday and Kollam on Tuesday and Thursday. A service had been conducted along the route on March 31 as part of commissioning the new track. There will be regular services from April 9 for three months. The train will run as a special service till June. Afterwards, it will continue as regular service with the same time schedule, said railway authorities.

On Monday and Wednesday, the train will leave Tambaram at 5.30 pm and reach Kollam at 10.30 am the next day. During the return trip, the train will leave Kollam on Tuesday and Thursday at 1 PM. It will arrive in Tambaram at 5.05 am, the next day.

The Tambaram - Kollam express will have 14 coaches, including one third A/C and six sleepers. There has been very good response to the reservation for the train which was opened the other day.
