New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Thursday further remanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to ED custody till April 1 in the money laundering case related to the alleged liquor policy scam case. He was arrested on the night of March 21.
The national anti-money laundering agency had sought seven-day custody of the AAP chief, but the court said he has to be produced before the court on April 1 at 11 am.
Special CBI judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order after Kejriwal was produced in court on the expiry of his six days of ED custody. Yesterday, the Delhi High Court declined any interim relief to Kejriwal and only issued notice on his plea challenging the arrest and remand.
The ED said in its fresh remand plea that during his custodial interrogation, his statements were recorded on five days and that he was "giving evasive replies". It said the statements of three other persons have also been recorded during the remand.
Additional Solicitor General S V Raju told the court that Kejriwal does not get exonerated if he's a chief minister. "There is no different standards for a CM. Right to arrest a CM is no different from an ordinary man," the ED counsel said.
On Thursday, Kejriwal addressed the court in person and submitted he would not oppose the remand. He claimed the entire case was a "political conspiracy" and there was no material against him. The Delhi CM alleged that the central probe agency was collecting selective material and even the approver was forced to make a statement against him.
