Twitterati scratch their head as Indian Army reports sighting Yeti!

The Yeti is back. The official Twitter handle of the Indian Army tweeted photographs of a gigantic footprint measuring 32x15 inches which it claims is that of a Yeti, the mysterious ape-like creature whose sightings have not been convincingly established so far despite numerous rumours occasionally.

The footprint was spotted close to Makalu Base Camp in Nepal on April 9 by a team of Indian Army Mountaineers. Releasing the photographs on its find on Monday, the Army has mostly garnered negative comments from Twitterati, with many claiming it could be fake.

Tarun Vijay, BJP MP, was the first to comment on the tweet and he lauded the expedition team. But other Twitter users were guarded as they assumed it could be a prank and the account could have been hacked. Many were wondering why only one foot is seen in the picture, and some even referred to the Tintin cartoons.

The legend of the Yeti or the Abominable Snowman is a part of the Nepal folklore. It is said the tall ape-like creature has been sighted in the Himalayas.

The Army too had remarked how the yeti has only been spotted in the Makalu-Barun National Park area before.

Yeti is said to be a "large hairy creature resembling a human or bear, said to live in the highest part of the Himalayas".
