Two Delhi youth arrested for killing man for mocking dance moves

New Delhi: Two men were arrested Friday for allegedly killing a man after he made fun of their dance moves during a Valmiki Jayanti procession in Mandir Marg area last month, police said.

The accused were identified as Rishab, 22, and Chaitanya, 21, they said.

On October 24, Avinash Sangam along with his family members and friends had gone to attend the procession of Valmiki Jayanti.

They were dancing in a group when a man joined them and began dancing with them by displaying some "difficult" dance moves following which Sangam responded to his moves to tease him, a senior official said.

A heated argument erupted between Sangam and the other man following which the latter left the spot. However, he returned later with his associates and when he got a chance, the accused fired on Sangam, he said.

Meanwhile, the accused fled along with his associates, the officer added.

Later, Sangam was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, he said.

As part of the investigation, some video clippings shot by the spectators were analysed and the accused were identified by Sangam's group, the officer said.

On Thursday, one of the suspects was identified as Rishab, a resident of Shakurpur area, and his house was checked, but he was found to be absconding, he said.

Later, police found that Rishab was hiding in Vijay Vihar and learnt that another person, identified as Chaitanya, was also involved with Rishab in the alleged incident, he added.

On Friday, both the accused persons were apprehended from Vijay Vihar area in connection with the incident, the DCP said.

During interrogation, the duo confessed their involvement in the case.
