Poet, literary critic, and teacher K K Hiranyan passed away at a private medical college hospital in Thrissur on Wednesday. He was 70. The veteran writer had been undergoing treatment for an illness for quite some time. His wife was the writer late Geetha Hiranyan.
K K Hiranyan started writing poetry at a young age and won several awards in a number of poetry competitions. During the emergency period in 1975, he was elected as the student editor at Kerala Varma College in Thrissur as an SFI candidate, marking SFI's first victory in the college.
He taught Malayalam at various colleges in Kerala. He retired as the Principal of Government College, Thrissur.
After the death of his wife, Geetha Hiranyan, who had earned several laurels including the G Sankara Kurup Janmasathabdhi Kavitha Award and the Kunju Pilla Smaraka Award, his presence in the world of poetry diminished.
K K Hiranyan was also well-versed in the history of Thrissur and its literary heritage. He was leading a solitary life due to his illness for a long time. He is survived by his children Uma and Anandakrishnan.
