Neriamangalam, the beautiful hamlet in the Idukki – Ernakulam border in Kerala is one of the places which receives the highest rainfall in Kerala. Shakir’s brand new house is at Thalakode which is a few kilometres away from here. The expatriate businessman and his family have recently celebrated the house warming ceremony of their dream abode. They are clearly thrilled to show around their house, which is a vision in white.

Shakir is the CEO of a spice trading company that is based abroad. The new house has been built by dismantling the old ancestral house that had stood here. It indeed was a challenge building a spacious house in this rectangular plot that lies in multiple levels. The house has been designed in the flat box-style to utilize maximum space. Interestingly, the house dons the enchanting white hue which grabs immediate attention. The pergolas and the passage in the front side make the house look wider.

Designed in 3400 sq ft, this fabulous abode has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, prayer hall, kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms, upper living area and an open terrace as well. The front yard is paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers. One could enter the house through the long passage that grants a majestic look to the exteriors.

The formal living area has been arranged by ensuring enough privacy. The dining area, meanwhile, is designed in double height. The dining space, family living area and the wash area are all arranged as part of the spacious hall. The unique design of the dining table is quite eye-catching. The dining table is made by soaking timber pieces in resin mould that is usually used to make fibre glass. This interesting technique is what gave the ‘chocolate bar’ effect to the attractive table top.

All the bedrooms are bath-attached and have in – built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces as well. The headboards, meanwhile, are highlighted with designer patterns and unique colour themes. The suave fabric cladding adorns the headboard in the master bedroom while interesting texture paints are used in other rooms.

The kitchen is furnished in the green colour theme. The cabinets, meanwhile, are done in acrylic finish. The counter top has been paved with granite. The counter on one side of the kitchen could be used as breakfast table as well. There is an adjacent work area where a traditional stove top has been installed. Besides, a laundry area too has been arranged as part of the work area.

The spacious open terrace could be turned into a beautiful vegetable garden or a utility-cum-party space.

The construction of the house had begun around one-and-a-half years ago. Though the works lagged a bit due to the pandemic, the family is elated that the construction wasn’t delayed for long. Moreover, this feature would be the perfect surprise for Shakir and his family who have moved into their new house.
