Malayalam films have social conscience: Sudhish Kamath

Sudhish Kamath

Director and film critic Sudhish Kamath was seen in the last IFFK for the screening of the movie ‘X’ that he co-directed with 10 others. This year, he has turned up with a different role; he was part of the selection committee assigned to choose Malayalam films to be featured in the fest.

"I watched over 50 films, and I must say that the films here are socially aware, they have a social conscience," said Kamath, in an exclusive chat with Onmanorama.

"The movies here absorb a lot from what’s around them. What’s there in the newspapers today, is on celluloid tomorrow," said the director.

On IFFK

"This year, I attended three festivals in a row and I feel that the IFFK is very well organised. Compared to the previous year, there has been less commotion on the grounds as well," he said.

Future projects

"As of now, I'm working on a book on Rajinikanth," he smiled before rushing to the next theatre.
