Pupathiri which looks like a flower is a traditional Malabar fried bread that goes well with pepper mutton chops. Though it is mainly prepared during Ramadan, this has gained popularity in Northern parts of Kerala.

Ingredients
For pupathiri
1 cup rice powder
1 coconut
2 tsp black cumin seed
Oil as needed
Warm water as needed
For mutton chops
6 small onions
2 tsp ginger (chopped)
2 tsp garlic (chopped)
1 tomato
5 green chillies (slit)
Mutton
Pepper, cardamom, cumin seeds, cloves, cassia bark, fenugreek (ground together)
2 tsp turmeric powder
3 tsp coriander powder
Salt as needed
1 cup coconut milk
3 tsp ghee
1 small onion
Curry leaves as needed

Preparation
To make pupathiri

In a bowl, mix rice powder and water
Add black cumin seed and coconut
Pour water and knead it into a smooth dough
Roll out the dough into the shape of a flower to make the pathiri
Heat oil in a pan
Deep fry the pathiris in oil
Remove it from the pan once it gets a golden brown colour
Hot pupathiri is ready

To make mutton chops

Heat oil in a pan
Add onion and sauté well
Add ginger, garlic, tomato, and green chillies
Add the mutton cooked in pepper and salt
Mix thoroughly
Add pepper, cardamom, cumin seeds, cloves, cassia bark, and fenugreek ground together
Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt to this mixture
Pour 1 cup of coconut milk
Close the lid and let it cook for 10 minutes
In another pan, add ghee, small onions, green chillies, and curry leaves
Put this mixture on top of the mutton masala
Garnish with coriander leaves and pudina leaves
Mutton chops is also ready
Serve it with the pupathiri.
