Ingredients
1 glass raw rice
½ glass cooked rice
1 large onion, chopped
1 large coconut, grated
¼ tsp cumin seeds
½ + ½ tsp ground fennel seeds
2 tbsp red chilli powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
Oil for frying
1 carrot, chopped length wise
1 green chilli, chopped length wise into four
Salt as required
Preparation
Soak the rice in water for an hour
Wash the rice and drain
Grind the raw rice and cooked rice together, by running the grinder just once
Add the onion, coconut, cumin, fennel (½ tsp) and salt and grind to the consistency of dosa batter
Pour it in a tray and steam cook for half an hour. When cold, cut the kinnathappam to long pieces and keep aside
Now, combine the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ground fennel seeds (½ tsp) and salt with a little water to a thick batter
Dip the kinnathappam pieces in the batter and deep fry
Garnish with the carrot and green chilli pieces
Serve hot
