On the Scoville Scale, the standard measure of chilli heat, Pepper X boasts an eye-watering 2.69 million SHU (Scoville Heat Units), dwarfing even the spiciest edible green chilli varieties, which typically range from 2,500 to 30,000 SHU.

Last year, the Guinness World Records has officially crowned Pepper X as the world's hottest chili pepper, ending the Carolina Reaper's 10-year reign. Both record-breaking peppers were created by breeder and grower Ed Currie. As a proprietary variety, Pepper X pods and seeds are not available for sale.

In an effort to protect his intellectual property and secure profits, Ed Currie will not release Pepper X pods and seeds. The only way to taste Pepper X will be through commercially sold hot sauces.
