There is no dearth of steel vessels and utensils in our kitchens as they are known for their durability. While some steel utensils lose their sheen soon, others remain as shiny as new ones even years later. Here are some tips to keep your steel vessels ‘stainless’ and shiny.
Clean using hot water
Stainless steel utensils should be washed using hot water. You could remove the grease and oil stains by scrubbing gently using a soft sponge and mild liquid soap. Wash again in clean tap water.
Vinegar solution
Use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean the stubborn stains. Rub this mixture on the stains and wipe using a soft sponge or a piece of cloth after some time. Vinegar helps in removing stains while retaining the shine.
Baking soda paste
This paste could be made by mixing baking soda in some water. It is a natural cleanser which could be rubbed on the stains. After it is dried, scrub gently using a soft sponge or a piece of cloth in a circular motion. Baking soda is excellent for removing the stains on steel utensils.
Lemon juice
The natural acids in lemon juice could remove the stains while retaining the shine. Cut a lemon in half and rub it on the stains. Leave it for a few minutes before washing using tap water.
Olive oil or mineral oil
Soak a piece of cloth in a bit of oil. Rub this on the stains. Besides retaining the shine, it helps in preventing stains and water spots.
Microfibre cloth
Instead of regular cloth, use a soft microfibre cloth to wipe the steel vessels. As they are extremely soft, they do not create scratches on the utensils. Moreover, it absorbs moisture nicely and grants a shiny finish to the vessels.
No harsh cleaners
Do not use harsh cleaners that could ruin the surface of the steel utensils. Using steel wool and harsh wire mesh scrubs to clean the vessels could cause scratches.
Always read and understand the instructions given by the companies, before purchasing the vessels. Stainless steel utensils could be used for years, without losing their shine and durability, if they are maintained properly.
