The Malayalam movie ‘Michael’s Coffee House’ released in theatres without hype recently offers viewers, particularly families and youth, a wonderful experience. Moreover, the climax of the small budget romantic family thriller has a good message to society.
Themed on suicide at a coffee house and the investigation that follows, the thriller also deals with topics such as the importance of family ties and love. In fact, the movie unfolds at three levels with the story revolving around a coffee house. An investigation by the hero as well as the police and the developments that Reviewfollow make the movie stand apart.
Director Anil Philip needs to be praised for tackling the topic in a mature manner. Similarly, Jiso Joy, who is the scenarist and producer, has succeeded in ensuring a seamless narrative even though the first and second halves of the film proceed differently. The director has also been able to maintain the suspense after the first half. Even though a viewer might experience a lag during the early part of the film, it would be evident at the climax that the slow pace at the beginning was intentional.
On the acting side too, the film doesn’t disappoint. Dheeraj Denny and Margaret Antony, who enacted the lead roles, have done immaculate justice to their characters. Sphadikam George, who takes up the role of a police officer after a long interval, reminds viewers of his glorious days. Meanwhile, Rony David, who appears in the title role of Michael, presents himself in a new getup. Actress Seetha too is seen playing a crucial character. Jins Bhaskar also shines as Assistant Commissioner Arun Kumar.
The other actors in the movie include Renji Panicker, Sijoy Varghese, Kottayam Pradeep, James, Harisree Martin, Sania Babu, Sanooja Somanath and Bensy Mathews.
Another highlight of ‘Michael’s Coffee House’ is its music by Rony Raphael, who has arranged the BGM as well as composed two beautiful songs that perfectly match the situations.
