Chennai: One of the new wards at the St Gregorios International Cancer Centre at Parumala will be named after Nandana, the late daughter of renowned playback singer K S Chithra. Nandana had died at the age of 8 in a drowning accident in Dubai.

Chitra had spearheaded a fund-garnering drive for the hospital located at Mannar in Pathanamthitta district. Chitra's fans in Bengaluru, along with one Ganesh Babu of Avadi, near Chennai, had collected the funds after they noticed a post of the singer on Facebook about the hospital.

Orthodox church supreme head Catholicose His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose, II, announced he visited the celebrity to thank her for the money raised and donated to the facility by her fans on her initiative. The Catholicose was accompanied by Orthodox church diocese secretary Fr Jiji Mathew Vakathanam and Cherian Thomas.

The Cancer Centre opened in 2016. Chitra had donated her gold ring once she knew about it and later conducted a fund-raising musical night for it.
