Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has withdrawn its order that made Saturdays a working day for schools. The Director of General Education (DGE) revoked the earlier directive, which applied to all classes up to the 10th standard, following a ruling from the High Court.

The DGE S Shanavas has informed that the order is being retracted until the government reaches a final decision on the matter. The High Court had earlier quashed this order while disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by various associations of school teachers and students who challenged the government's decision.

The DGE had abruptly issued the order in June, increasing the number of working days to 220, despite the ongoing consideration of the petition by the High Court.
