Vatakara, Kozhikode: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) witnessed a momentous occasion at its 37th convocation, where the spotlight shone brightly on the achievements of the Vatakara Regional Centre. Held on Tuesday, February 20, the ceremony was a testament to the dedication and academic excellence fostered at this regional hub.

The main function at IGNOU Headquarters in New Delhi featured the Jagdeep Dhankhar, Honourable Vice-President of India, as the Chief Guest. His inspiring Convocation Address resonated across regional venues, connecting students nationwide. At the Vatakara Regional Centre, the Convocation function was graced by the presence of Prof S Bijoy Nandan, Vice Chancellor of Kannur University, who served as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Prof Nandan lauded the Vatakara Centre's remarkable efforts in advancing inclusive education. He highlighted IGNOU's pivotal role in reaching diverse segments of society, including those in rural areas, socially disadvantaged sections, and even within correctional facilities. The Vice-Chancellor commended the use of technology, online learning initiatives, and SWAYAMPRABHA Channels, emphasizing their significant impact on expanding the reach of higher education.

A proud moment for the Vatakara Centre was the acknowledgement of its achievements, particularly in terms of enrolment growth and various activities. Prof Nandan extended heartfelt congratulations to the successful students, recognizing their hard work and determination in navigating academic programs successfully.

Dr. Sindhu P. Nair, Regional Director of IGNOU Vatakara, took center stage by presenting a comprehensive report highlighting the accomplishments of the Vatakara Centre. A total of 5,345 students were declared eligible in the 37th convocation to receive degrees and diplomas, including 2,316 Master's degrees, 1821 Bachelor's degrees, 41 Certificates, and 1107 Diploma programs.

The Convocation ceremony was attended by 386 students at the Vatakara venue.
