Thiruvananthapuram: A meeting of the Syndicate of the A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University — the erstwhile Kerala Technical University — has decided to acquire software to detect plagiarism in thesis.

The Syndicate also took a decision to purchase various online journals. In yet another major move, KTU will install a cloud-computing facility for research and Big Data analysis.

New engg colleges

KTU has sanctioned two more engineering colleges in Kerala. While KMCT Institute at Malappuram will have 360 seats in four Bachelor of Technology (BTech) courses, Master of Business Administration and Master of Computer Applications, the Gregorian Institute in Kottayam will offer 360 seats in five BTech courses.

Convocation

In yet another decision, KTU will organise a convocation ceremony for students who complete research and post-graduation under the university.

Percentage marks for BTech

KTU will be issuing mark-lists with grades converted to percentage marks for BTech students. The decision was taken following a demand from the BTech students. Students who have already completed the course can also utilize the facility, said the university authorities.

Exam malpractices

Meanwhile, the university debarred Al-Ameen College in Palakkad from conducting exams for a year after mass copying was reported from there. Similarly, a fine was imposed on Government Engineering College, Sreekrishnapuram, after exam malpractices were detected at the institution. An inquiry also will be launched against the college.
