Art soothes the mind and offers hope, especially in difficult times. It also inspires minds, especially those of children.
These thoughts had inspired the students of GEMS Modern Academy at Smart City, Kochi, who organised their first art and photography virtual exhibition, ‘Postcards from the pandemic’, recently.
The seven-day event was inaugurated by artist Bose Krishnamachari, president of the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF). The four house teams of the Academy curated their exhibitions on the subsequent days. The creations of the children reflected deep thoughts and also celebrated life in all its hues.
Noted personalities in the field of art took part in various sessions as guests. They included Nemom Pushparaj, Chairman, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi; Blaise Joseph, programme manager, Art by Children Initiative of KBF; Dr Prateek Sudhakaran, artist, building scientist and bio-inspired architect and Rajan Paul, commercial photographer. The guests spoke about their experiences in the creative field and on topics such as responsible art, architecture and others.
Other sessions discussed matters such as how art, inspired by nature, can influence people and change not only their lives but also entire societies.
