In January’s first JEE-Main examination, Adwaith Deepak had scored an admirable 99.97 percentile. He stood first among those who took the test from Kerala. He was more than qualified to progress to the next stage, JEE-Advanced. Yet, Adwaith opted to take the JEE-Main again. This time, his score was 99.994. He secured the first place among Kerala candidates and 95th at the all-India level.
Here are the specifics of Adwaith’s success:
COVID and lockdown
Adwaith said it was an unexpected change of events. The examination of April was postponed to September. He said these did not affect studies. Adwaith spent over eight hours each day on preparations. In between, he scored 491 out of 500 in the CBSE Class 12 examination.
Ways of preparation
The good score in the January examination was a confidence booster. Then, Adwaith focused on the CBSE examination. When the exams got over, he devoted more time for JEE-Advanced. Adwaith said ‘deep study’ was required for this and it actually helped. After board exams, Adwaith focused on solving mock tests. He then identified and worked on areas that he thought needed more attention. He took mock tests online.
Future plans
Adwaith wants to join IIT-Madras in the Computer Science stream. He said he had this plan all the time. In COVID times, he said, the power of computer science, came to the fore. Data sciences and artificial intelligence would be the ‘in-things’ of the future, he said.
For JEE aspirants
Adwaith says there is no short-cut to success. During his Plus Two days, he used to devote seven hours for preparation during working days and 15 hours on holidays. He took extra care to avoid diversions. Also, extracurricular activities were given a break, too.
