Applications can be submitted online from Wednesday for admission to the Plus One courses in the government / aided higher secondary schools in Kerala till August 14. A single-window facility has been opened for the purpose through which candidates can submit one application for all schools in a revenue district. A candidate can also apply for admission in more than one district.
Eligibility
To apply, a minimum of ‘D+’ grade or equal marks should be obtained by the student for each subject in the SSLC / tenth standard or equivalent examination.
The board exam of CBSE students will be considered during the first round. However, guardians of students who passed the tenth standard when school/board exam was in place have to produce an affidavit on a stamp paper worth Rs 50 in the format given in Appendix 9. The school-level CBSE students would be considered for the vacancies remaining after the main allotment.
Age
Candidates should be in the age group of 15 - 20 as of June 1, 2020. However, there is no lower age limit for students who passed the public board exam from Kerala. Candidates from other boards can avail a six-month exemption in the lower and upper age limits by approaching the designated authorities. While the upper limit for SC/ST candidates is 22 years, it is 25 years for visually challenged, hearing impaired and mentally challenged students.
How to apply
Click on the APPLY ONLINE - SWS link below the PUBLIC tab in the website www.hscap.kerala.gov.in to submit the application.
Appendices 4, 5 and 8 of the prospectus have the application form and instructions. As no documents need to be uploaded, applicants would be selected based on the information provided by them. So, exercise caution while submitting the form.
Help can be sought from the school the candidates studied or from the teachers or the computer lab of any government/aided school of their district to fill and submit the form. Help desks too function at these schools.
A candidate cannot submit two applications for merit seats in one district. However, they can apply to another district. For this, a separate application is necessary.
Options
One option consists of one school and one subject combination. Different combinations in one school are considered as separate options. Course codes for each school in every district are given in Appendix 7 of the prospectus.
A candidate can submit any number of options but it is advisable not to mention subjects for which the student has no taste. Moreover, if a candidate has not given an option for which vacancies exist, he or she will not be allotted that seat.
With a large number of such conditions, applying for the Plus Two needs much care.
Candidates can list the schools and subject combinations according to their preferences. To learn the chances of getting admission at a particular school, check the grade points of the last rank of the previous year’s admission on the website.
There are 45 subject combinations in science, humanities and commerce. The preferred combinations have to be cautiously selected and filled according to preference in column 24 of the application.
Ideally, take a copy of the application form, fill it and ensure that the information is correct before filling the main form. Also consult parents, guardians and other adults before submitting the form as this is the stage of life when the future of a student could be decided. Remember that a student who chooses humanities or commerce can never enter science, engineering, technology, medical or agricultural fields later.
After submitting the application, all further procedures are based on the candidate login with a password created with mobile OTP. These include allotment, submitting of options and payment of fees.
To get admission to management / unaided / community quota seats in aided schools, fill and submit forms issued by the respective managements. The single-window facility of the government has no option for these seats.
Allotment
A correction facility would be later provided to change options, schools or combinations.
The main allotment would then take place with two allotments. Subsequently, the supplementary allotment would be held. Candidates who do not get a seat during the first allotment should better change their options in the next phase. School-level CBSE students also can apply during this phase.
VHSE
Meanwhile, candidates for first-year VHSE courses also can apply from July 29 through the website www.vhscap.kerala.gov.in
