Thiruvarur: The protesting students of the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) here called off their hunger strike after vice-chancellor A P Dash agreed to look into their grievance on Wednesday.
The VC has constituted a four-member committee with senior faculty members from the university. This independent panel will study the grievances the protesting students had raised. The committee will submit its report on March 6.
The students had launched an indefinite strike on Friday to protest the termination of services of two contractual staff -- A Aazhiarasi and S Saranya -- of the Department of English.
They claimed the authorities terminated their services without giving any prior information or any explanation.
As the students went on indefinite strike, the officials of the administrative department, including the registrar S.Bhuwaneswari, asked their parents to take the students back.
The students have demanded the revocation of the service termination and action against some faculty members, including S. Nagarajan, the dean of students welfare, and L.Kavitha, chief warden of girls hostel, accusing them of mental torture.
