Once upon a time, if you wanted to see a movie, you had no other option but to go to a movie hall. Televisions opened the doors of our home to movies and now, you can watch a movie on a computer or a mobile phone — while at home or travelling.
According to statistics, many of the web surfers used Internet to watch videos. The data suggests that a person in developed countries devote 61 per cent of their online time to view videos — 39 per cent of it is done via mobile phone. There is a significant growth in this sector year on year. In India too, this number is pretty high.
This drastic change was set off in 2005 by YouTube, a California-based video sharing site. Anyone could create, upload and promote their videos with Youtube. It also allowed the people to enjoy these videos on the web, mobiles and on the tablets.
While TV shows and movies are aimed at catering to the big screens, web videos are meant for the smaller screens. Malayala Manorama produces a host of such videos. The programme called I, Me, Myself is an example. The programme profiles popular people from all walks of life. It has been produced keeping the mobile user base in mind.
