April is peak summer in Kerala, but it has enough to refresh you with unique, colourful festivals. Here are a few Kerala Tourism-recommended destinations for the month.
The fest at Nellikulangara Bhagavathy temple in Palakkad, which will be held on April 3, is known for probably India's biggest fireworks and vibrant processions.
A festival held in the light of traditional 'kaipantham' lamps in Thrissur, it assembles more than 40 deities and is one of the largest temple festivals. It will be held at Arattupuzha Temple on April 9.
Massive decorated masks and vibrant folk arts are the highlights of the fest, which will be held at Kadammanitta Devi temple in Pathanamthitta from April 14.
Towering Pandava idols and the 'velakali' performance are the signature of this fest. It is held at Thiruvananthapuram's Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple from April 2 to 11.
If you love elephant parades, check out this fest, one of the oldest in Kerala, known for its majestic processions. It is held on April 6 at Peruvanam Temple.
The International fest will be held at Varkala beach from April 10 to 13. As part of the fest, even tourists will have chances to try a hand at the sport.
It is held at the historic St Thomas Church in Kochi's Malayattoor, dedicated to Jesus' disciple Thomas, who is believed to have reached Kerala centuries ago. Devotees climb to the hill shrine barefoot, prayerfully. It will be held on April 27.
