On May 25, Indian director Payal Kapadia achieved a historic milestone by winning the Grand Prix Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her film 'All We Imagine As Light', marking both her personal achievement and India's first in this category.
In 2021, Payal Kapadia's documentary 'A Night of Knowing Nothing' debuted at the Cannes Film Festival's Director’s Fortnight and received the prestigious Oeil d’Or (Golden Eye) award.
Her short film 'Afternoon Clouds' was showcased in the Cinefondation category, which is focused on nurturing emerging filmmakers, as reported by PTI.
Kapadia, an alumna of the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), gained recognition for leading a four-month protest against then-FTII Chairman Gajendra Chauhan in 2015.
