After Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram - Kasaragod Vande Bharat getting upgraded to a 20-coach express, the Secunderabad - Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat (20833/20834) has also been given an upgrade from its 16-coach train. The South Central Railway GM Arun Kumar Jain said that the augmentation during the Sankranti season is a timely addition, as more people can visit native places. According to officials, the additional coaches on the train will continue even after Sankranti. The train has 18 chair cars and two executive classes from today. This is another Vande Bharat Express consistently enjoying a 130% plus footfall. The other 20-coach expresses so far are the New Delhi - Varanasi, Tirunelveli - Chennai Egmore and Nagpur - Secunderabad.
Extra trains for the season
There will be around 188 Sankranti special trains this season towards Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Kakinada. This is in addition to the 366 trains that will pass through the zone. Around 15 regular trains have also been given a facelift with extra coaches for the season till January 4. There will also be an extra 26 trains for Maha Kumbh by SCR, in February. The East Coast Railway will also operate Jansadharan special trains between Vizag and Cherlapalli for the Sankranti festival season, on January 12, 15 and 17 at 9.45 am from Vizag. It will reach Cherlapalli at 10.30 pm.
