Dubai: A group of people travelling in the same direction or route here can soon rent buses too, via a 'bus pooling' system. The facility to try bus pooling, just like carpooling, has been arranged by the Road Transport Association (RTA) via a smart application. If the number of passengers exceeds the capacity of a car, then they can book a minibus for the trip. In the initial phase, the service will be launched from Deira to locations like Business Bay, Dubai Mall, Mirdif and Dubai Festival City. RTA’s public transport agency CEO Ahamad Hashim Bahrousian said the service would be extended to other locations too.
Minibuses can be booked on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The service would be scheduled as per the number of passengers. To book the bus pool, passengers can use Citylink Shuttle, DrivenBus, and Fluxx Daily smart apps. Twenty mini buses with 13 – 30 sitting capacity would be part of the bus pooling service. The type of bus would be determined based on the number of passengers and the distance. Mini bus pool is cheaper than taxis and offer the same comfort of travelling in a taxi car.
