Chennai: To relieve Malayali rail passengers who travel home for Diwali and puja holidays, the Southern Railway will resume the Tambaram – Kochuveli special AC train from October 11 onwards. Malayala Manorama recently published a news report about how the railways abruptly stopped service, which was relied on by hundreds of Malayalis, after Onam. As per the latest notification, the train that departs Tambaram on October 11, 18, 25 and on November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, and December 6, 13, 20, and 27 (Fridays) at 7.30 pm reaches Kochuveli at 11.30 am next day.
The return services have been scheduled on October 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24 and December 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 (Sundays). The train that leaves Kochuveli at 3.15 pm reaches Tamabaram by 7.35 am. There are 14 third economy class coaches on the train. Meanwhile, this special train has stops at Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, and Tenkasi, as well as at Thenmala, Punalur, Kottarakkara, Kundara and Kollam. Booking has begun for the festival season.
