New Delhi: Iran recently announced visa–free entry for Indians visiting the country for tourism purposes. This visa–waiver project has been effective from 4 February onwards. It was in December, last year, that Iran announced a project that allows visa-free entry for citizens of 32 countries including India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. However, the visa-free policy for Indians is subject to four conditions.
Those who hold a regular passport may enter Iran visa-free once in six months. However, he/she can stay in the country only for up to fifteen days. Visa-free entry is allowed only to tourists who arrive in the country by air. Meanwhile, the authorities clarified that those who wish to stay in the country for a longer duration or make multiple entries within six months should secure a proper Iranian visa. Last month, Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar visited Iran and held extensive meetings with Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Hossein Amir–Abdollahian. The visa-free project for Indians was flagged off after that.
