Plastic pollution will have no place in Thrissur Pooram this year. The city corporation has begun efforts to make the Pooram environment-friendly. Notices have been distributed in order to ensure the cooperation of the public, the trade and industry sector for the same. There will also be campaigns to create awareness on the same.
Flash mobs, cloth banners, special bins
National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers will perform flash mobs at different places. Suggestions for using cloth banners for publicity and making advertisement boards in cloth or paper will be given.
Special bins to deposit organic and inorganic waste and special booths for depositing plastic bottles will be established at different places. The green campaign will help in reducing the waste and ensuring segregation of the waste in the proper way.
Water, buttermilk in steel glasses
Directions will also be issued to shops and other establishments to supply water and buttermilk in steel glasses and eatables in steel plates.
Fifty volunteers will be deployed at the Thekkinkadu Maidan in order to ensure that plastic usage is avoided on the days of the Pooram. The activities are being carried out in coordination with the District Suchitwa Mission and NSS units.
