A new homestay has been opened at the picturesque destination of Gavi in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala mainly targeting family tourists. The homestay, which has earned the ‘Diamond category’ tag from the state Tourism Department, has all modern facilities. In fact, the homestay is an old bungalow built by the British in the private estate of ‘Down Town’ which has been refurbished.
The homestay was launched on September 27 as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations and it offers a package which includes food and transportation. Three executive rooms are among the options for stay at the homestay, which can accommodate a total 20 guests.
According to officials, the homestay has come up under the new tourism development policy of the state government. Gavi, which is blessed with nature’s beauty, attracts international as well as domestic travellers with its cool weather, the constant presence of mist and the high chances of sighting wildlife. However, there are very few accommodation facilities available and the newly-opened homestay intends to meet some of this demand.
Presently, travellers are transported daily to Gavi from Pathanamthitta. In addition, special vehicles are arranged to carry tourists to the destination from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Thrissur, Irinjalakuda, Malappuram and Kozhikode. Accommodation is also provided for these tourists.
Meanwhile, officials said bookings should be done at least one week in advance for staying at the homestay. More details are available from phone number +91 9400314141, they informed.
