Beypore, Kozhikode: Visitors to the Beypore Marina Beach can now literally float over the waves. A floating bridge has been set up at the beach for the adventure enthusiasts.
The bridge has been installed by the Chalakudy Capture Days Adventure Tourism and Water Sports, with the help of the DTPC (District Tourism Promotion Council) Kozhikode and the port department.
Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas will inaugurate the bridge on March 31.
The bridge, which is 100 metre-long with a width of 3 metres, will offer tourists a different marine experience. The bridge has been made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) blocks, that float over the water. As it can be quickly assembled and dismantled, it can be moved to other locations as required. A total of 1300 HDPE blocks, weighing 7kg, were used to build the bridge with support provided every 2mt of the floating blocks. Also, people can hold on to the railings that are on either side to prevent them from falling, project coordinator Shameer Subair said.
The bridge has been further strengthened with 31 anchors, weighing 100kg. The bridge will rise and fall along with the waves. The bridge can carry up to 500 people at a time. But as of now, only 50 people will be allowed on the bridge and that too by wearing life jackets.
At the end of the bridge that stretches out to the sea, a 15-metre-wide platform has been set up for visitors to better enjoy the view. The bridge will be opened for public from 11am to 6pm, and the entry fee is Rs 100.
