Traffic suspended following landslip on Munnar Gap Road

Rajakumari: A landslip occurred at Devikulam Gap Road in the Kochi – Dhanushkodi highway on the wee hours on Sunday, forcing the authorities to suspend traffic in this route. Boulders and mud fell near the road that turns to Muttukadu from the Gap Road. There was a landslip in the same area last year as well.

The farmlands in the nearby areas weren’t damaged as the rocks and debris got stuck on the road. There weren’t any vehicles on the road as traffic isn’t allowed in this route at night.
Traffic has been temporarily suspended here following the landslip. Revenue officials said that it would take some time to restore the traffic as more landslips are anticipated in the area. More than a dozen instances of landslides have been reported at the Gap Road and the nearby areas after the construction of the National Highway has begun.
