Shoranur: The Indian Railways have issued orders to attach double-decker coaches to more daytrains when regular services resume. Such coaches designed by the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) at Kapurthala in Punjab for trains having trips lasting up to 12 hours during daytime were rolled out recently.
Images of the coaches, being introduced by the Railways focusing mainly on leisure travel, were shared by RCF on social media. More coaches will be produced after the inspection by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is completed. The new coaches were built after rectifying some shortcomings in the double-decker compartment manufactured earlier.

Each of the latest double-decker compartments has 120 seats. While 50 seats are in the upper level, 48 are at the lower deck. There are another 16 seats on one side and six on the other.
Facilities inside the coach include mobile-laptop charger points, LED display boards announcing the stations where the train halts, CCTV camera and a light refreshment stall. The double-decker coach is designed to travel at speeds of up to 160 km per hour.
