Munnar: The popular Eravikulam National Park in Kerala's Idukki district has reopened after a long break caused by the pandemic-related lockdown and Pettimudi disaster. Closed on January 20 this year, considering the breeding season of Nilgiri tahr, the park was scheduled to open again during early April.
With COVID-19 protocols coming into effect, the reopening of the park was delayed and visitors were finally allowed this week based on an order issued by the Chief Wildlife Warden of Kerala. However, new rules are in place for tourists as well as staff.
While the entry time is from 8 am to 2 pm, the ticket rate has been increased from Rs 125 to Rs 250. For foreign citizens, the amount is Rs 600. Moreover, children below 10 years of age and people above 65 years will not be allowed inside. The strength of staff on duty too has been reduced to 50 per cent.
Even though Eravikulam national park is now welcoming visitors, the renowned Thekkady lake is still off-limits, being a containment zone.
