Water lilies are the talk of the town these days. They are in full bloom this season and many tourists from far and near have been visiting Malarikkal village on Kumarakom road in Kottayam district of Kerala. Another not-so-popular location, around 12 km from Kottayam town, has a full bloom of water lilies. Ambattu kadavu near Panachikkadu Saraswati Temple in Panachikkadu of Kottayam district offers this seasonal scenic beauty.

Ambal fields spread over a vast area of land, covering both sides of the road send the visitors into trance. There are few 'valloms' or boats that take tourists to the interiors of the fields, on one side of the road. There is not much left to see near the roads since people have already plucked most lilies there.

On the other side, there is a small trail leading to the interiors. This walk, although slippery, is very scenic with a stream of water flowing through and ducks paddling away.

It's better to reach the location by 6:30 in the morning. Ice cream vendors and flower vendors are also seen in full action here.
