Abu Dhabi: Surfing enthusiasts across the globe can rejoice as Surf Abu Dhabi, the largest manmade surf park in the world, is finally set to open at Hudayriyat in October. From beginners who wish to learn basic skills to experienced professionals looking for the perfect waves, the park offers tailor-made waves for every skill level. Entry is from 9 am to 10 pm on weekdays from Monday to Thursday and from 9 am to 11 pm on weekends.
A joint venture of Modon and Kelly Slater Wave Company, Surf Abu Dhabi, has been designed to cater to the skill levels of experienced surfers and aspiring surfers. The saltwater waves that boast of perfect resemblance to the real ocean have mellow beach break whitewash to amazing barrels and high-performance sections. General manager Ryan Watkins said that the consistent and controlled waves are safe and thrilling at the same time.
Even though the surf park will host an international event by the end of this month, it will officially open only in October. The park authorities said Hudayriyat Island was chosen because it is well-known for its high-quality sporting facilities. Meanwhile, modern technology is niche enough to satisfy all surfers and adventure lovers.
Kids from four years of age can learn the basic skills of surfing here. Meanwhile, skilled surfers can explore the waves and improve their talent in the customised wave sections. Even though the park opens at 9 a.m., it is advisable to arrive at least an hour earlier for the safety demonstrations and skills class.
Beach break for beginners
The beach break is suitable for beginners and first–time surfers. This section has been separated into two zones: white water for first–time surfers and green water for practising basic skills. These gentle rolling waves will help beginners gain confidence and develop their basic skills.
Coco Beach for experienced surfers
These waist-high, slow-paced waves allow beginners to improve their wave-riding skills and balancing.
Point break for high-performance
The fast waves provide safe conditions for practising your turns and techniques. Moreover, this is the perfect section to enjoy thrilling, adventurous moves in a controlled setting.
Kelly’s Waves for professionals
With impressive height and multiple slabbing barrel opportunities, Kelly’s waves are for professionals. These waves allow high-speed turns and other splendid moves that demand technical expertise. In the 60-minute surfing classes, you will be introduced to the basic skills of surfing as well as technical and safety features. Surf Abu Dhabi has been developed as part of the velodrome that sprawls over 5.1 crore square feet and offers world-class accommodation and sporting and entertainment facilities. Besides, a 220 km long cycling track is being developed in the Hudayriyat island. Surf Abu Dhabi sits alongside other spectacular attractions like Trail X, a bike park, the largest urban park, an elevated cycling track, an indoor 321 sports activity centre, mangrove forests and an eco-farming centre.
