Edinburgh: The famed fringe festival at the iconic city of Edinburgh in Scotland is drawing crowds from all over the world. Touted as one of the biggest festivals in the world, the fringe festival began in 1947.
The twenty-five-day-long festival is celebrated in the month of August every year and this year, it's till August 28.
More than 3350 varieties of art forms performed by around 50,000 artists from across the globe are featured at the event. Interestingly, these are performed in more than three hundred venues.
The fringe festival is one of the rare and biggest festival venues where the artists can freely express themselves without any reservations. From plays, song and dance sequences, opera and children’s performances to street plays, circus, stand-up comedy shows and magic performances, you could enjoy anything here.
Besides the main venues in the city, the pubs, beaches, streets and even moving cars too become instant venues. Millions of spectators are at the Scottish capital to be part of the festivities.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe charitable society is the main organiser of the event.
As per the latest census, Edinburgh City, which is known as the ‘Athens of North’ has a population of over 5,26,470 people. Interestingly, almost these many numbers of people reach the city to take part in the festival and enjoy the performances.
Besides, the organisers live stream the events on various social media platforms. Edinburgh is the second most visited city in the United Kingdom, after London. Meanwhile, more than 1.3 crore tourists visit Edinburgh, which is one of the biggest tourism destinations in Europe, every year.
