After a lull triggered by the pandemic, as the world struts back to normal activities, the scent of flowers is wafting from the Government Botanical Garden, Ooty.
The 124th edition of Ooty's famed annual flower show, slated to be held from May 20-24, is already attracting hordes of visitors to the hill station in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The Rose Show on May 14 and May 15 at the Government Rose Garden, as part of the Ooty Summer Festival, sort of heralds the imminent arrival of the flower show.
The Horticulture Department is also organising a fruit show at the Sims Park in Coonoor on May 28 and 29.
What is in store?
A lavish treat is in store for flower lovers -- geranium, Asiatic and oriental lily, dahlia, begonia, cyclamen, cineraria, pansy, gloxinia, ranunculus and much more will be on display, organisers say.
About 35,000 pots with 275 varieties of flowers will jostle to seek the attention of connoisseurs, thanks to the passionate effort of 350 gardeners who have been doing the spadework for the show for the past few months.
A 15-feet wooden house made of 31,000 roses dazzled at the Rose Show.
Popular cartoon characters including Motu and Patlu also made stunning appearances in their 'Rose avatars'.
About 50,000 roses were used for creating various similar structures at the show.
