Kasargod: The Tata Group has launched its second resort in Bekal, now recognised as the second-most sought-after destination wedding hotspot in south India.
The latest addition, the Gateway Resort by the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL)—the group's hospitality division—has 151 rooms and is IHCL's largest hotel in Kerala. The company already operates another hotel at Bakel, the Taj Resorts at Uduma Beach, which boasts 77 rooms.
The resort's formal inauguration will be conducted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 15, said Anoop Kumar, General Manager of the Gateway Hotel.
IHCL is also planning to launch a Ginger Hotel with 150 rooms at Udma Pallam. "With the opening of the Ginger Hotel, IHCL will have a total of 370 rooms across three locations in Bekal. This expansion will resolve the shortage of five-star accommodations, meeting the growing demand for destination weddings. The Taj Resort alone hosted eight destination weddings this year," said Dinesh Varma, General Manager.
Wedding parties are estimated to spend an average of Rs 1.5 crore on rooms and venues for destination weddings in the area. A majority of these parties travel from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi.
The Gateway Hotel spans 30 acres and offers a total indoor and outdoor space of 71,551 square feet. It caters to destination weddings, business conferences, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism. Situated along the banks of the Bekal River, the property boasts top-notch facilities, including a lawn restaurant, open spaces, a convention centre, and a poolside bar.
Both the Taj and Gateway resorts by IHCL operate on leased properties from the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation under the state government. Bekal is located 70 kilometres from the Mangalore Airport and 102 kilometres from the Kannur International Airport.
IHCL currently manages 20 properties in Kerala, with five additional projects in progress. Of these, eight properties, including the three under construction, are in Kochi.
