With a height of over 80 feet, Athirappilly Waterfalls are the largest in Kerala, often called the 'Niagara of South India.' It is located on the Chalakudy River, which originates in the Western Ghats. The waterfalls are in the Athirappilly panchayat of Chalakudy taluk in Thrissur district. Each year, many tourists from inside and outside Kerala visit the site, which lies at the entrance to the Sholayar forest area. The Vazhachal Waterfalls is located about 5 km from Athirappilly. Movie buffs who are also avid tourists are thrilled that the beauty of Athirappilly has reached an international audience. Uglies' is directed by Joseph McGinty Nichol, known as McG, and is based on Scott Westerfeld's novel of the same name. Athirappilly Waterfalls have been featured in several films before, including the Prabhas-starrer 'Baahubali,' last year’s Rajinikanth film 'Jailer,' and Mammootty's 'Brahma Yugam.' However, it remains unclear whether the scenes of Athirappilly in 'Uglies' were filmed on location or if existing footage was used.
