Alappuzha: Muttar, a scenic green spot with vast paddy fields and beautiful canals of Kuttanad is all set to turn into a tourism hub after the recent launch of a boat club here. The region, that comes under Veliyanad Block Panchayat in Kuttanad, is known the best as a pilgrimage destination due to the presence of the St Thomas Church, Kumaranchira. Instagram also gave it a 'foodies hotspot' status after various restaurants here became viral online, recently. The latest addition to the list is the boat ride facility by the Kudumbashree-run Greenland Water Hub. This is the first tourism project of the region, according to authorities.
What tourists get to do
Visitors can paddle along the canal and the paddy fields of Muttar when no farming is being done here. The farming season is generally from December to the end of March. During this time, boating will be restricted to the nearby canals. The water hub is being managed by two members of the Kudumbashree Muttar unit. They have been given proper training and licences for running the club. At present there are 6 boats here - two peddle boats, two round boats and two kayaking boats. The club is operational from 9 am to 6 pm. Visitors can enjoy boating at Rs 100 an hour during this time. For details, contact: 8590083149
How to reach
From Changanassery, head to Perunna. Drive around six kilometres to reach the Kidangara Veliya Paalam (bridge). After exiting the bridge, drive around 1.5 km on the Neerettupuram route to reach the Garudagari restaurant. The boating is conducted in this area.
