A little bit of history
History has it that Nellarachal was a mute witness to many bitter battles. Malabar’s lion Pazhassi Raja along with archery exponent Govindan hailing from Nellarachal had spearheaded a guerrilla war against the British with the help of tribal people belonging to the Kurichiya tribe.
The travellers can take a sneak peep into the bygone era as they get an opportunity to see Govindan’s collection of arrows and know more related details.
‘Thudi’, a musical instrument made by Paniyan tribals of Wayanad, can be bought from Nellarachal and the proceeds from its sale helps the tribal people make ends meet. Moreover, the visitors can know more about the medicinal effects of eucalyptus and get a first-hand experience of how the popular eucalyptus oil is made.

How to reach
You can reach Nellarachal in 35 minutes via the Ambalavayal-Meenangadi road and 50 minutes while travelling through the Varyadu-Kulavayal road.
