The picturesque island was a favourite of wanderlusts from both Kerala and outside who thronged the remote land for it's natural beauty and the thrilling raft riding experiences.
Kuruva Island, which was reopened to tourists following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, seems to be finally regaining its glorious old days. More than fifty-five thousand tourists came to the island during the midsummer holidays. Kuruva Island is also a popular destination for tourists from other states. Rafting is a favourite tourist activity at the island. The authorities are hoping to introduce more river ride activities.
The Kuruva Island scattered on the banks of the Kabini River is one of the most visited places in Wayanad. The presence of rare flora and fauna adds magic to the island. People from all over the world visit Wayanad to explore this beautiful place.
This green-clad island is located at the foothills of the Western Ghats on the way from Mananthavady to Mysore. The Kuruva Islands are about 40 km from Kalpetta, 34 km from Bathery, and 17 km from Mananthavady.
You can ride on a bamboo raft. The rafts are ridden by those from tribal communnities who are also part of the local forest protection committee.
