There is more to Kerala than all this and the unexplored regions of Kannur are a treat to the eyes. We bring you five of the less explored places around Kannur that your travel agent won't tell you about. 

Elapeedika

Elapeedika is perched at around 1000 ft above sea level in the Western Ghats.  This forested, lush green foothills bordering the Kottiyoor range offers a perfect glimpse at a traditional high-range village. Elapeedika, derives its name from Elam (cardamom) and peedika (market) since cardamom is one of the major crops in the area. Elapeedika also had a brief tryst with one of India's fights against the imperial rule. It was at the Periya Pass. near Elapeedika. that Pazhassiraja's forces clashed with the East India Company in the 18th century. 

Puralimala

Tucked away in the foothills of Western Ghats, Puralimala is slowly finding a way into the tourism map. The lush green is home to unique flora and fauna. And Puralimala used to be a camp for Pazhassi Raja in the early days. 

Kizunna Beach

Kizhunna Beach is just a hop. skip and jump from the city. Pristine and not very crowded, this beach is an ideal way to welcome the end of the day. 

Vellur

Kannur is where living gods walk in your midst. And Vellur, a tiny hamlet is where the costumes that aid their transformation is made. Once a busy weaver's village, there are but a few who stay true to traditions here. 

Kannavam Forest trails

Long long ago, these forests bore witness to guerrilla warfare and more recently, it became the venue for the shooting of SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'Baahubali, The Conclusion'.
