Actor Jayaram and his family enjoy adventurous trips to some of the most exotic locales worldwide. We rarely see him travel solo as his family always accompanies him. The family’s first international trip, a few days after Jayaram's son and actor Kalidas’ wedding, is quite special. Kalidas and his wife Tarini and the rest of the family are now in Finland, enjoying a magical holiday amidst snow-covered mountains and frozen fjords. The pictures and videos shared on their social media handles have become viral. Finland is covered in snow, with temperatures dropping to minus 24 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Tarini has shared a beautiful balcony view from the famous Levi ski resort in Lapland as her Instagram story. Jayaram’s daughter Malavika had revealed after Kalidas’ wedding in Guruvayoor that they will soon leave for a family holiday. She had said that the family plans to ring in the New Year at an international destination.
Happiest country on earth
Finland is consistently ranked the happiest country on earth and is covered in snow for most of the year. The country boasts incredible technological advancement while being proud of its rich cultural and historical heritage. The Finns have a knack for turning even the worst situations or weather conditions to their advantage. Finland is the northernmost country in the European Union. Meanwhile, Southern Finland's population density is high as Northern Finland is mostly covered in vast swathes of snow. The summer, as well as the winter in Finland, are quite unique as nature dons beautiful forms during these seasons. Finland is frozen during the harsh winter, while the pleasant summer, though short, is full of life and colour. So, the population here prefers spending time mostly outdoors from May to September when the earth smells fresh greenery.
The country has many amazing spots that could be enjoyed at any time of the year. Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, skating and ice swimming are some of the adventure activities that you could enjoy during the winter. Meanwhile, the days are longer in summer as the sun sets really late here. Finland is known as the ‘land of the midnight sun’ as you can see the sun shining bright even at midnight. However, the sun will disappear for months when the earth covers itself in thick snow blankets. The moon and the stars gleam on the night sky while it snows heavily.
Finland is a country of many small islands. So, you could see a few lighthouses here that offer scintillating views of the ocean and the islands. You could spend hours at the lighthouses, listening to the soothing sound of the waves. Ferries and boats are available to travel to the islands. Most houses in Finland are built using wood and are painted in red. The cities where you could see rare wooden buildings that are centuries old should not be missed. Helsinki and Porvoo are some of the oldest cities here.
Traditional cuisine, Santa Claus' homeland
The traditional cuisine mostly includes delicious food items cooked using fresh ingredients. Salmon soup and berry pie are some of the world-famous Finnish delicacies. Visit highly rated or best-reviewed restaurants to enjoy these authentic dishes. Interestingly, there are around forty national parks in various parts of the country. There are many islands, lakes and forests in these national parks, making them great natural reserves. Tourists can enjoy hiking, canoeing, climbing and snow shoeing here. Finland is also a country that is believed to be Santa Claus’s land. His 'office,' which is situated at Rovaniemi in the Arctic circle is open throughout the year, welcoming visitors.
The Northern Lights
The Aurora or the Northern Lights is a magical display of green and purple lights on the night sky. This splendid natural phenomenon is something that should be witnessed at least once in life. The Aurora Borealis appears only on 10 or 20 nights in September – October and February – March. So, visitors swarm Finland during these months to enjoy this mind-blowing phenomenon. Glass igloos are arranged here for you to enjoy the scintillating beauty of the Northern Lights with your dear ones.
Staying away from the city lights is the best way to enjoy the Northern Lights in all its glory. The neon colours of the Aurora really pop when the surroundings are dark. So, visitors mostly travel to Lapland in the Arctic or the Northern Finnish villages to watch the Aurora. Finland has turned the traditional igloos into a major tourist attraction by building them in glass instead of ice blocks. You may have to wait for hours or travel to multiple locations to see the Aurora Borealis. Sometimes the Lights may not even appear on the sky, despite waiting for long hours. Arctic Treehouse Hotel, Octola and Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort are some of the famous igloo resorts in Finland.
