Actor-anchor Kavitha Nair is taking in the beauty of Sikkim…minute by minute, with her whole “heart and soul”, as she puts it.
“My heart is filled with gratitude. I have never seen the moon this clear, this closer. I slept listening to the river. I woke up to the warmth of nature all around…”, says her heartfelt Instagram jottings.
Kavitha is chilling out in Lachung, a mountain village close to the Tibetan border. The village, or rather the hill station in the North-Eastern state of Sikkim, is a favourite winter-time tourist destination. Lachung lies almost 9,600 ft above sea level. All government initiatives to give the place a tourism boost seem to have paid off with globe-trotting tourists pouring in to enjoy the most favourable months from October to May.
The visually stunning Himalayan village is home to tall, dark, brooding mountains, pine forests, gushing waterfalls, orchards, glacial rivers and hot sulphur springs.
The 19th-century Lachung Buddhist monastery rests here. The Yumthang Valley and the picturesque rhododendron park can be accessed from here as the place happens to be the base camp for sight-seeing tours. As the place turns into a sheet of undulating snow, winter sports like skiing and skating work big-time in Lachung.
The actor has posted pictures aplenty of her Lachung holiday. One of them shows her posing against the backdrop of the frozen Gorala river as she sets out on a trekking spree. Though Gorala is generally out of bounds for tourists, people venture out with the help of local villagers, a fact which helped her go around.
Sikkim is one of the most beautiful states of India with the Himalayas enhancing its looks. However, despite all this, the place took a beating because of the Covid with the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation pegging its losses at Rs 600 cr last year.
