The reigning World Chess Champion has said what he had on his laptop wallpaper until a few years ago.

World Chess Champion D Gukesh said his laptop wallpaper until a few years ago was a collage of former world champions.

FIDE shared the comment from Gukesh after he became the 18th World Chess Champion following his victory over Ding Liren of China in Singapore in mid-December last year.

"The wallpaper on my laptop for a lot of years was the 16 world champions. I think it was before Ding became the world champion," Gukesh said. Ding was the 17th World Chess Champion.

Gukesh, who at 18 is the youngest world chess champion, said being part of the elite list was a dream come true. "Now that I think of it, I am part of these amazing players in history. It is like any player's dream and for me its a huge honour."

Gukesh had said how he dreamt of becoming a champion when he witnessed Magnus Carlsen defeated Viswanathan Anand for the title in 2013. "I think I still have a long way to achieve the kind of greatness that Vishy sir or Magnus and all these players have done."
