Kapurthala (Punjab): Punjab Police and Eastern Railway, Kolkata, emerged champions in the second All-India S Balkar Singh Cheema Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament here on Friday.

Punjab Police defeated Indian Bank, Chennai, 86-71 in the men's final, while Eastern Railway got the better of KSEB, Thiruvananthapuram, 79-69 in the women's title decider.

Amrit Pal Singh and Amjoth combined with Vishesh Brighuvanshi to dominate Indian Bank in the men's summit clash. Punjab Police led 46-37 at the Interval. 

Amrit Pal top-scored with 27 points, while Amjoth and Vishesh contributed 22 and 20 points respectively for the winners. Muin Bek was Indian Bank's top-scorer with 20, which included six three-pointers

The women's final was tied 20-20 at the end of the first quarter. Eastern Railway surged ahead through Poonam Chaturvedi as they gained a 42-33 at the interval.

The third quarter saw KSEB bouncing back to take a 58-54 lead. However, Poonam starred in the final quarter and combined effectively with Madhu Kumari and Nimma to settle the final in Eastern Railway's favour.

The winners were richer by Rs 2 lakh, while the runners-up received Rs 1.5 lakh. 

The results (finals): Men: Punjab Police 86 (Amritpal Singh 27, Amjot Singh 22, Vishesh Brighuvanshi 20, Amandeep Singh 12) bt Indian Bank 71 (Muin Beck 20, Baladhaneshwar 15, Hariram 14, Pranav Prince 11).

Women: Eastern Railway 79 (Poonam Chaturvedi 36, Madhu Kumari 15, Nimma Dogra 12) bt KSEB 69 (Jeena P S 20, Kavitha Jose 20, Susan Florenteena 17).
