Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) president Mercy Kuttan will step down after being told by the government to relinquish her post.

Olympian Mercy had taken over as KSSC chief in 2019 during the tenure of the first Pinarayi Vijayan ministry. She became the third woman after Padmini Thomas and Anju Bobby George to head the KSSC.
Mercy, the first Indian woman long jumper to clear the 6-metre mark, was also a member of the 4x400m relay team which won gold at the 1989 Asian Athletics Championships in New Delhi.
