UEFA paid Real Madrid $154 million last season

Champions League winners Real Madrid received a whopping 139 million euros ($154 million) for their performances last season, according to UEFA's (Union of European Football Associations) financial report published during its annual meeting in Belgrade.

Real defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final at Wembley to clinch their 15th Champions League title. UEFA's total competition prize fund was more than 2 billion euros ($2.22 billion), and it is set to rise by 25% this season under the expanded format with more teams and more games.

Despite getting eliminated in the semifinals, French side Paris Saint-Germain were the second biggest earner with 122.4 million ($135.7 million). Champions League runners-up, Borussia Dortmund, received more than 120 million euros ($133 million).

Real's domestic rivals Barcelona got 98 million euros ($108.6 million) for reaching the Champions League quarterfinals. Belgian champions Royal Antwerp received the lowest sum of less than 22 million euros ($24.4 million).

Among Premier League clubs, Manchester City pocketed 110.5 million euros ($122.5 million) from reaching the Champions League quarterfinals as the defending champions. But Liverpool, which lost to Atalanta in the quarterfinals, received less than 27 million euros ($30 million) from UEFA.
